Canada has increasingly become a popular study destination that attracts international students, especially in the recent years. Many clients have asked me: How much does it cost to study in Canada? This would be very important fact which student should understand before going to study in Canada.
In first part of this video, I will share the information about costs of study in Canada from secondary school, college, university, graduate studies. I also include cost of studying language for those who want to improve English or French before entering the main program.
PART 1:
1/ TUITION FEE:
Canada has some of the cheapest tuition fees for international students compared to other English speaking countries. Canada works out cheaper than studying in the USA and even cheaper than the UK and Australia
Tuition fee of high school in Canada:
Public high schools in Canada, from grade 9 to grade 12, are popular for international students and they have to pay fees to study as those schools while Canadian residence study free. The school year is normally from September to June (total 9 months).
How much does it cost to study high school in Canada? The tuition fee can range from approximately CAD 8,000 to CAD 16,000 per year. It difference from province to province.
Example: High school in Toronto: 16,000CAD/year | New Brunswich: 7,400CAD/year | Vancouver: 14,500/year
Sometimes, schools charge small fees for your child to participate in extra activities, such as sports teams or school outings. In high school, many students bring their own lunch to school, however, some schools offer cafeterias or hot lunch programs where your child may purchase a meal.
Tuition fee of college in Canada:
You’ll find high-quality colleges and vocational schools throughout Canada, including smaller cities and towns where the cost of living is lower. Even Canada’s larger cities are relatively more affordable than many cities around the world.
How much does it cost to study colleges in Canada? College’s tuition fees for international students in Canada vary depending on the program and location you choose. They are often less expensive than university studies. You will see the range from approximately CAD 14,000 per year to CAD 18,000 per year for tuition, depending on the college and your program of study.

Compared to many countries, studying in Canada is very affordable. How much does it cost to studyuniversities in Canada? Average costs for an undergraduate degree are CAD 25,180. You will likely need between C$20,000 and C$40,000 annually to cover tuition. This range is an average only and will vary according to the institution and program in which you are enrolled. In virtually every field of academic study, Canadian universities offer graduate degree programs.
Master’s degrees require 1 or 2 years of study after completing your bachelor’s degree. In Canada, your master’s studies can include a thesis, practicum, research paper program.
How much does it cost to studypost graduate in Canada? I found that tuition can range approximately CAD 18,000 per year for a master’s degree program. Statistics Canada puts the average postgraduate tuition fee for international students at CA$17,744/ year in 2019/20. Regular MBAs cost from CA$27,397/ program. Executive MBA programs are generally the most expensive, averaging around CA$56,328/ program
PhD and doctoral degrees involve 3 to 5 years of study, including a thesis. This usually is pursued after completing your master’s degree. A PhD tuition fee might run you approximately CAD 17,000 per year.
Tuition fee of Language in Canada:
Language schools often provide courses based on a certain number of weeks, rather than a semester approach to study. The cost of tuition at Canadian language schools is established by each school.

Cost of living in Canada
Although Canadian student visa requirements say you must have at least CAD$10,200 on top of your tuition fees, you’ll likely need to budget much more than this for your living expenses. So planning ahead will avoid you creating financial problems during your study in Canada
Your living costs will vary considerably depending on your location and spending habits, with large cities generally more expensive to live in.
The three main types of student accommodation (homestay, School residence and private accommodation) vary considerably in costs. Cost of living in Canada, Students paying around CA$11,400 for on-campus accommodation each year. University accommodation is often cheaper, with some universities offering meal plans to allow you to purchase food from the university’s food outlets. Private shared accommodation can cost around CA$12,400 per year with meals.

The Université de Montréal estimates students will need a total of CA$14,700 per year including housing, food, books and course supplies, phone costs and miscellaneous expenses.
Similarly, the University of British Columbia, located in Vancouver, estimates living costs of CA$15,500 per year, not including mandatory health insurance, which is CA$864 per year under the BC Health Plan.
According to the 2019 Mercer Cost of Living Survey, Toronto was the most expensive Canadian city to live in, closely followed by Vancouver, with rent particularly high in both cities. Estimates living costs of CA$15,000 to CA$16,600per year

Finally, I would to say that as an international student in Canada, it’s a good idea to establish a budget to plan for the cost of living and studying abroad. You’ll need to consider the study cost for international students in Canada from High school to university, including tuition fees at your school of choice. This will prepare you well for your study overseas in Canada.
